Gynecomastia Surgery in Türkiye

A discreet procedure to restore a flatter, more confident chest contour for men.

What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men. It may be caused by hormonal imbalance, genetics, certain medications or other medical conditions, and it can affect one or both sides. It is common during puberty and often settles by itself, but in some men it persists into adulthood.

Gynecomastia surgery aims to reduce this tissue and create a flatter, more masculine chest contour.

How the technique works

The approach depends on whether the enlargement is mainly glandular tissue, fat or a combination of both. Glandular tissue is removed through a small incision, usually around the edge of the areola. Where fat is a major component, liposuction is added to smooth the chest contour.

In cases with significant excess skin, additional techniques may be discussed by your surgeon.

  • Gland removal through a small, discreet incision
  • Liposuction where fatty tissue is present
  • Combined approach for mixed gynecomastia
  • Usually takes about one to three hours

Who may be a suitable candidate

Before considering surgery, a doctor will usually look for underlying causes such as medication effects or hormonal conditions, as some cases are treated differently. Individual evaluation is essential.

  • Men with persistent breast enlargement that has stabilised
  • Patients in good general health
  • Those not using substances or medication that may cause recurrence
  • Adolescents only after specialist assessment and stable development

Procedure day, recovery and results timeline

The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes between one and three hours depending on its extent. Patients commonly stay in hospital for about two days. A compression garment is worn afterwards to support healing and reduce swelling.

Bruising and swelling are expected and improve gradually. Many people return to desk work within about a week, while heavy lifting and chest exercise are usually avoided for several weeks, as advised by your surgeon. The chest contour continues to refine over a few months, and scars typically fade with time.

Risks and important considerations

Possible risks include bleeding, fluid collection, infection, asymmetry, contour irregularities, changes in nipple sensation and visible scars. Recurrence is possible if the underlying cause, such as certain medications, persists.

Tell your doctor about all medication and supplements you use. Wearing the compression garment, attending follow-ups and keeping a stable weight support the best outcome. Results vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.
